The recent upheavals in the country's politics are driving me crazy. Suddenly, some people have become Hindi-speaking and some have become Marathi-speaking, some have become Assamese and some are Kashmiri Muslims and Kashmiri Hindus. And oh! Some are Hindus and Muslims and Christians too. And suddenly some people have discovered that the rest of the world is out to get them, that if they don't go out on a rampage, they are gonna get destroyed by the evil world! The doofuses don't even realise that they are being manipulated by the politicians for votes. Or maybe they do. Maybe they just don't care anymore, so long as they can blame their personal failures on someone else.
You know what hurts me even more? It's when educated people, supposedly intelligent people, speak that way. You may be my best friend but if you think in one language and I think in some other language, you will not welcome me into your home. You will shoo me away at the door.
Well, I refuse. I refuse to be a Hindu or a Muslim or a Christian or a Sikh or of any other faith. I refuse to belong to U.P. or Bengal or Bihar or Tamil Nadu or Maharashtra or to any other region. I refuse to be considered a Kannada-speaking person or a Marathi-speaking person or a Hindi-speaking person. I refuse to be a Brahmin or a Scheduled caste person. I REFUSE. I will not belong to a part when I can belong to a whole.

ये सही है कि जाति, क्षेत्र, सम्प्रदाय इत्यादि राजनीति की देन है। लेकिन सबसे बड़ी समस्या है कि इस बड़े देश में बहुत कम (मुश्किल से कुछ हज़ार या कुछ लाख) लोग ऐसे हैं जो ये समझ सकते हैं। और जो लोग समझते भी हैं, वो भी ये कह कर अपना कर्त्तव्य पूरा कर लेते हैं कि सारी ग़लती राजनीति की है, हमलोग कुछ नहीं कर सकते हैं। अगर ऐसा ही है तब तो ये मान लेना चाहिए कि जो हो रहा है वो सही ही है।
और जहाँ तक वो "best friend" वाली बात है, मेरा मानना है कि कोई आपका "best friend" ऐसे ही नहीं बन जाता है, इसके लिए जरुरी है कि आप दोनों के विचार मिलते हों। और अगर नहीं मिलते हैं तो दो दोस्त कभी भी discussion करके ये decide कर सकते हैं कि क्या सही है और क्या ग़लत।
और सबसे महत्त्वपूर्ण बात, आज के ज़माने में बहुत कम लोग ही ऐसे हैं जो किसी दूसरे के दर्द को समझ सकते हैं। किसी के पास दुसरे के बारे में सोचने का समय ही नहीं है और ना ही सोचना चाहते हैं। सबकी एक ही सोच है, हम तो ठीक ही हैं। और ऐसे लोग तब तक नहीं समझेंगे जब तक इनके साथ कुछ ग़लत नहीं होता हो।
आज इतने सारे bomb-blasts हो रहे हैं और इतने लोग मारे जा रहे हैं, देश के लोगों पर इसका बस एक फर्क पड़ा है। पहले ऐसे समाचार सुन कर लोग चौंक जाते थे, अब वो कोई प्रतिक्रया नहीं देते। अगर किसी blast में 5 लोग मारे जाते हैं तो लगता है कि चलो कम ही लोग मरे हैं। लेकिन कोई ये नहीं सोचता कि उन कम लोगों में से कोई हमारा अपना होता तो क्या होता? और ऐसे लोग तब तक नहीं सोचेंगे जब तक सही में उनके साथ ऐसा नहीं हो जाता है।
